In line with the resolution, we are glad to inform you of the following developments:

  1. National Agriculture and Fishery Council (NAFC) Fruits and Vegetables Committee approved an 80% allocation of all import permits to cooperatives which the Secretary approved  to be implemented by Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI)
  2. Production protocol showed that it is possible to produce onions that can compete worldwide.
  3. The Philippine Crop Insurance (PCI) has a special program to cover onion production to ensure that farmers recoup losses from natural disaster.
  4. The Food Development Center (FDC) has given us the list of maximum residue levels in Japan.  Through the effort of the agricultural attaché in Japan and the Department of Agriculture (DA),  we see an opening of exports in February.  Marubeni Corporation is also trying to sell our onions as soon as we are able to send samples acceptable to their buyer.
  5. We will plant in October to have early production in January and February hopefully in time for the Japanese market in March.
  6. We will undertake a “Philippine Sweet Onion Farmer of the Year Contest” for 2009-2010 to encourage farmers to plant for export.
  7. We continue to follow-up resolutions like lower cost of fertilizer, diesel and other production input and special rate of interest for onion loans.  By Agrilink 2010 we will update our stakeholders the progress of our program.
  8. NOGROCOMA is doing everything to create a climate of growth of exports of Philippine Sweet Onions to Japan and other countries.
  9. Adopted the brand “Philippine Sweet Onions” the sweetest onions in the world.
